Royal Life Saving Queensland 100 Year History

The first qualified life savers practiced on Greenmount Beach in December 1908 . The drowning of Ruby Orford at Burleigh Heads when she was dragged ashore by Thomas Mulcahy on his horse but all attempts failed to save her. This saw the first reel and line bought into Queensland and stored under a house at Burleigh Heads and used for the first time, new years day 1912.

British Fighter Planes

Mosquitos
 Entering widespread service in 1942 made completely of wood and nicknamed the Wooden Wonder. The de Havilland Mosquito was a high speed,high altitude photo reconnaissance aircraft.

Spitfires
 British single seater fighter aircraft was the big success story of the Battle of Britain. They had a maximum speed of 580 km an hour but it was their altitude that gave them a considerable advantage reaching heights of 34,000 feet .

Lancaster Bombers
These planes were the most successful bombers of world war 2 

Pathfinders
These led the way for the bombers releasing flares to show their targets.

In 1936 The Walrus became the first amphibius aircraft to be catapulted from a warship.

In September 1944 Ridgway was given command of the xviii airborne corps in  Operation Market Garden . An unsuccessful operation under the planning of General Macarthur.

Uluru
Uluru or Ayers Rock stands 340 metres high . Its not just the amazing sunset view that stands out because around the base of the rock you can find many nooks and crannies including numerous rock pools. No wonder this amazing iconic rock means so much to the indigenous people of the area.  



Ormiston Gorge 
is a awesome display of geology and landscapes and the place of the recent rediscovery of the Long-tailed Dunnart. Its located in the Macdonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory, which were often portrayed in the works of Albert Namatjira .
